Ever read a book from Eckhart Tolle? It can be a lot.
If you’re not compelled to read one, fear not, I’ve listed some pearls of wisdom from ‘A new Earth’. Although I recommend the journey of the book.
This all relates to awareness and mindfulness.
- Being must be felt, it can’t be thought.
- If you can get absolutely comfortable with not knowing who you are, then what’s left is who you are. The being behind the human. A field of pure potential rather than something that is already defined.
- Give up defining yourself – to yourself or to others. You won’t die. You will come to life.
- There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so – Shakespeare.
- You don’t think. Thinking happens to you.
- The ego cannot tolerate becoming friendly with the present moment, except briefly just after it’s gotten what it wanted. But nothing can satisfy the ego for long. As long as it runs your life, there are two ways of being unhappy. Not getting what you want is one. Getting what you want is the other.
- Nonresistance, nonjudgement and non-attachment are the three aspects of true freedom and enlightened living.
- If uncertainty is unacceptable to you, it turns into fear. If it is perfectly acceptable, it turns into increased aliveness, alertness and creativity.
- In the proximity of death, the whole concept of ownership stands revealed as ultimately meaningless.
- The modalities of awakened doing: acceptance, enjoyment and enthusiasm. Make sure one of these is operating whenever you are engaged in doing anything. From simple to complex tasks. If you are not in one of these states, look closely and you will find that you’re creating suffering for yourself and for others.
